Teacher Assistant Job Description

Ideal Candidates must be able to:

  • Provide top-rated care for children
  • Instruct children to promote social, emotional, spiritual, and academic well-being
  • Teach social skills at an age appropriate level
  • Provide emotional care (hugging, holding, singing, etc.) to children in an appropriate and beneficial way
  • Carry out lesson plans as provided by the curriculum/director in the absence of a lead teacher
  • Attend to the basic needs of children, including diaper changing, toilet training, dressing, and feeding
  • Encourage language development by narrating daily activities
  • Establish and maintain techniques for keeping order in the classroom
  • Keep all areas sanitary to promote good health and well-being
  • Follow center guidelines for completing child assessments and daily reports
  • Arrive to work on-time and ready to work
  • Maintain a gossip-free work environment
  • Adhere to the guidelines stated in the employee handbook
  • Be flexible in the workplace, as far as working with children of different age groups


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND at least one year working with children less than 13 years of age.
