Lead Teacher Job Description

Ideal Candidates must be able to:

  • Provide top-rated care for children
  • Instruct children to promote social, emotional, spiritual, and academic well-being
  • Teach social skills at an age appropriate level
  • Provide individualized instruction for children of varying ages and abilities
  • Provide emotional care (hugging, holding, singing, etc.) to children in an appropriate and beneficial way
  • Carry out lesson plans as provided by the curriculum/director
  • Attend to the basic needs of children, including diaper changing, toilet training, dressing, and feeding
  • Encourage language development by narrating daily activities
  • Identify signs of emotional, social, or other developmental problems, and discuss appropriately with supervisor
  • Establish and maintain techniques for keeping order in the classroom
  • Keep all areas sanitary to promote good health and well-being
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss children’s progress and needs
  • Follow center guidelines for completing child assessments and daily reports
  • Arrive to work on-time and ready to work
  • Maintain a gossip-free work environment
  • Adhere to the guidelines stated in the employee handbook

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field AND one year experience related to caring for infants and toddlers (only relevant for infant/toddler teachers)
    or:
  • Child Development Associate credential (CDA) in appropriate age level AND one year experience related to caring for children *two years required for infant/toddler teachers
    or:
  • 9 credit hours in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field, with a plan of study leading to a CDA in appropriate age level or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field AND two years’ experience related to caring for children
  • For school-age lead teacher only: High school diploma or equivalent AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age
